Recent Transition of Gonorrhea and VDRL Positivity

Abstract
The authors studied the recont transitions of the gonococcal positivity from smear and VDRL from the ordinary hospital acses in recent 4¡6 years.
The positivities of gonococcal smears were 8.3% in average and 9.1% in 1970, 7.5% in 1971, 11.3% in 1972, 27.5% in 1973, 52.8% in 1974 and 3.3% in 1975. This result showed gradual and abrupt increases later but 1975 when abrupt decrease was remarkable, while non-gonococcal organism was increased markedly.
This sequence of transition was thought to be due to the replacement by secondary infective organism.
The rate of the posivivities of gonococcal maears by sex showed the predominantly high incidence in the male and by the age distribution, twenties generation revealed the most high incidence, thisties next, and teen age group the third i which there was an increasing tendency year by year.
The positivities of VDRL were about 4.4% in average 5.6% in 1972, 5.8% in 1973, 4.1% in 1974 and 6.2% These indicated some increases of VDRL positivities recently as other reports. The male showed much more high positivity rate in VDRL.
An incidental finding was the high rate of positivity in health check. Gencrally speaking, the V.D. is increasing recently year by year world wide and we note that the V.D. should be controlled by the systemic detection of the infectious source and education for people.
